About Us

Hi there,

Just a quick note about who we are. We are a small community of ordinary people, who have quit smoking and would like to help others, do the same.  We would like to ‘pay it forward’, so to speak.

Who am I….? Well, Phil is my name and I would like to tell you a small bit about myself. I have stopped smoking with about 25 years or so. I had several reasons to quit smoking, wanted desperately to stop, but I did find that back then, there was no resources, no internet, no websites, basically no help whatsoever. The Health Authority had a little information about the dangers of smoking and what it could do to people, who continuously smoked, but nothing of any great consequence.

We were left to our own devices, it was kind of…try your best, cut them down, perhaps, someday you’ll quit, if you keep trying. The whole subject of quitting smoking…I won’t say it was taboo, but it was certainly very blazee. Hit and miss, would be nearer to the point.

From a very early age, I was introduced to smoking at home. My father smoked like a trooper, my mother never smoked. We were smoking from the minute we were born esentially. I remember when my youngest brother was born, my father gathered us into the car, off to the maternity hospital to see our mother and our new born brother. In the hospital maternity ward, all the fathers were there visiting their newborns and guess what…. all the fathers were smoking. There were ash trays on the bedside lockers, so we were esentially smoking from day one. This was back in the late 60s, so I guess, the dangers of smoking wasn’t seen as a danger to public health.

After finishing school, I got a job, had money in my pocket and one thing led to another, I soon found myself smoking on a regular basis. I was also drinking heavily back then, so both the smoking and drinking went hand in hand, leading to me becomming heavily addicted to both vices. In my prime, I was smoking 40-60 cigarettes per day.

I managed to stop drinking a few years before I quit the cigarettes. So that was a help. I wasn’t putting myself in harm’s way, so to speak.

A few factors helped me along the way,  in my quitting smoking journey. Firstly, the Government here in Ireland introduced a Smoking Ban into law. Which meant, smoking was banned in all public places, like restaurants, offices, bars, libraries, places of work, public transport and so on.  This was a cue for me to quit. Also I changed jobs around that time, I was now a sales rep for a utilities company, and always at lunchtime, I would stop at a cafe for a sandwich and cup of tea, but the fact that the smoking ban meant I could no longer enjoy my puff, helped me no end.

Eventually, I stopped smoking, that’s the bottom line. So, I am creating this website, with a view to helping others. The website which will have a ton of resourses, up to date information and helpful tips an how anyone can stop smoking.

Going forward, we hope to have Zoom webinars, with Health & Medical experts, motivational speakers, people who have quit and many others. Our team will have a weekly newsletter, a Q and A page and lots, lots more.

Thanks for reading my ‘About Us’ page.

Wishing you a successful journey
